It was a special month for martial arts this month, as the area had a very special guest in the shape of “The Iron Dragon”, Sigung Richard Bustillo.
Richard Bustillo is probably most famous for being a direct student and close friend of the legendary Bruce Lee, and was Instructor to Bruce Lee’s children

Of course Bruce was the reason for a whole generation of people taking up martial arts, and three local instructors were no exception. Sion Oxford (Satomi Kai Aikido), Mark Trent (Scorpion Academy), and Steve Von Leuchtenberg (MMA Combat) all took the opportunity together to go and train with the Iron Dragon.

Sigung Bustillo is also an Olympic training coach and official with USA Boxing, a Kru in Muay Thai and is recognized by the Council of Grandmasters of the Philippines as Ninth degree Black Belt (Grandmaster) in Doce Pares Eskrima.

The training included a mix of stick fighting, knife fighting, kung fu and kick boxing.
Everyone worked very hard, but the atmosphere was kept light by Bustillo’s light hearted jokes, and a rocking soundtrack of AC/DC.

As with all events of this type, it wasn’t just an opportunity to cement existing bonds between groups, but to meet new students and teachers from other groups, as we mixed and shared with clubs as close as Bury St Edmunds and Norwich, to as far as the other end of the UK.

This was an event we’ll remember for a long time, and we’d like to join in thanking Guro Terry Nixon for the invitation, and we look forward to getting together again soon.
