You have likely already seen the TV adverts for ‘This Girl Can’ – a national campaign developed by Sport England and a wide range of partnership organisations. It’s a celebration of active women up and down the country who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets.
Satomi Kai Aikido are very proud to be involved in the campaign.
Regardless of your size, body type and current level of physical ability, age or disability. If you are looking for a healthier, more confident way of life, then the modern art of Aikido may well be for you.
Martial arts are not just about strength and size, but also speed, control, and mental discipline which females have plenty of.
Many martial arts instructors observe that women learn and master techniques faster because they put emphasis on executing the correct technique rather than relying on sheer power. It’s a smart tactic employed by women to compensate for their lack of muscle mass.
Unlike the dreaded treadmill, Aikido classes are quite social affairs and training partners are encouraged to help each other with fair practice and advice.
To kickstart our drive to get more women involved and enjoying this art, we are going to be having a special ladies-only class on Sunday March 22nd. All the men in the class are going to be told to stay at home, and will each send a lady in their stead – be they friends, work colleagues, or partners.
There will be a female instructor running the session, and we’ll also be inviting any female students from other local aikido groups. Best of all though, is the evening will be open invitation to any ladies, of any level, who fancy coming and trying something new.
As the campaign is keen to make clear, it doesn’t matter if you are fit, it doesn’t matter if you are experienced. It certainly doesn’t matter how you look. What matters is that you are willing to get off that sofa, and shake some life into that body.
